We Are Families Helping Families

DATE: 26th October 2019

KUCHING – The Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society launched its public awareness campaign today, Anna Beats Cancer, here at Vivacity Megamall today. This is the second time that the childhood cancer awareness exhibition in the form of a giant balloon maze is held, where last year’s event saw over 5,000 attendees in the three-day period of the event.

It is open from 25th to 27th October, and aims to educate the public on  childhood cancer, as well as provide more information on how the Society supports these children and their families, as well as opportunities on how to contribute to the Society’s cause. As visitors walk through the maze, they will read about Anna’s journey (in 3 languages), see the story come to life through specially designed balloon sculptures, learn about signs and symptoms of childhood cancer, types of treatment, and the services that SCCS provides to her and her family during treatment.

Said Dr Ong Eng-Joe, Vice President of the SCCS Committee, “We at the Society believe that early detection saves lives. With this exhibition, not only will attendees be able to learn about the signs and symptoms of childhood cancer, but we also hope to cultivate a sense of empathy for those less fortunate, and provide an avenue for the public to support them.”

Entrance to the maze is free, and attendees will also be given a free temporary tattoo and a voucher for a 1 hour free playtime at Kidzoona. Apart from this, attendees can also find out more on how they can help and support SCCS through volunteering opportunities, merchandise sales as well as collaborate to raise childhood cancer awareness. The public can also sign up for the Monthly Donation Program, an auto-debit process where public can donate monthly to SCCS, from a minimum of RM30 (RM 1 per day). Registration for the Society’s annual charity run, Colour Rush 2019 will also be available during this time.

Anna Beats Cancer is held in collaboration with P196 Stampin as the main event supporter with allocation from the Sarawak State Development Office, event partner De Jackie Inspirations, venue sponsor Vivacity  Megamall, supporters Jabatan Wanita dan Keluarga Sarawak (JWKS) and Kidzoona, media partner TeaFM, photography by the Shots Gallery and contributor One Medicare.
