Hi, my name is Andrian, and I’m from Miri. My journey started when I was just a little over one year old. Before anyone knew I was sick, my body was already trying to tell us something. I had a fever for more than two weeks. One day, my left leg couldn’t stand properly, and there was a small bruise on my calf. My mummy and daddy brought me to BMC Bintulu first, but a friend suggested we go to a government hospital to check my blood because my face looked very pale.
At that time, we were living in Bintulu because of Daddy’s work, and it was during the COVID season. We had just finished quarantine, and travelling was very difficult. Even my grandparents couldn’t come to visit me. Leaving home to go to Kuching felt scary and lonely, but my parents knew it was the only way to help me get better.
In July 2021, I was diagnosed with Pre-B Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia, just two months after my first birthday. My mummy was very afraid, especially because she had just given birth to my little sibling. But she always says I was stronger than her. Even when she felt like giving up, I kept smiling and trying my best.
I went through seven months of chemotherapy and finally went home. But in December 2024, during a routine check, my cancer came back. This time, my journey was harder — 11 months of intensive chemotherapy and a haploidentical bone marrow transplant at a non-government hospital that cost over RM60,000.
Staying in the ward for months was the hardest part. Sometimes my emotions felt messy. What kept us strong were the kind words from Sister Zalina and the big support from SCCS. They helped with money, a place to stay, and everything we needed.
Now, I’m happiest when I’m with my younger siblings. They give me a reason to smile and be strong. I love fried chicken, kolok mee, watching TV, and making friends. Today, I’m back at school, growing, learning, and moving forward with hope.
