The Sarawak Children\u2019s Cancer Society (SCCS) ushered in the Lunar New Year with a heartwarming celebration at The Northbank Club, generously sponsored once again by Ibraco Berhad. This festive gathering, SCCS\u2019 first family engagement activity of the year, brought together childhood cancer patients, survivors, and their families for a memorable day of joy and connection.

With a program filled with engaging family-centric activities, the event aimed to create moments of happiness for the children while fostering meaningful relationships within the community. Ibraco, who was also the main sponsor of last year\u2019s GoBald campaign\u2014SCCS\u2019 flagship annual fundraising initiative\u2014has continued to demonstrate steadfast support, inspiring further collaborations from other corporations and organisations in the fight against childhood cancer.

\u201cThis was made possible by the love and commitment of our community, as well as the generosity of our supporters and donors. Together, we strive to ensure that no child or family has to face this journey alone,\u201d expressed Marylene Placid, Treasurer of SCCS, in her opening speech.

The event was filled with lively performances and interactive segments, including a children’s fashion show where young warriors and their siblings showcased their confidence on the runway, a lucky draw with exciting prizes, a spirited family photo contest, mini-games and dance performances. The highlight of the celebration was a vibrant lion dance, adding an extra touch of festivity to the occasion.

Over 100 attendees participated in the celebration, including 23 families of patients and survivors, SCCS committee members, SCCS staff, medical staff and Ibraco representatives, all dressed in festive Lunar New Year attire to embrace the spirit of the season.

SCCS extended its heartfelt appreciation to Eragon NS Lion & Dragon Dance Association Sarawak, La Danse Studio, De Jackie Inspirations, and Enjou\u00e9 Shots Photography for their generous contributions in making the event a success.

About Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS)<\/strong>
Mission:<\/strong> To provide care and support for Malaysian children and their families who are suffering from
childhood cancer in Sarawak.

The Sarawak Children\u2019s Cancer Society is a non-profit organisation founded in November 2001, dedicated to meeting the needs of families of patients diagnosed with paediatric cancer in Sarawak irrespective of race, religion, age or gender. The SCCS committee is made up of 70% patients\u2019 parents and 30% volunteers. The Society has supported more than 1,700 children since 2001.

Our Services<\/strong>
Support<\/strong>
Through counselling sessions, home visits, support programmes, youth and family camps, and informal friendships, SCCS provides emotional and moral support to members of its community. In 2024, SCCS provided more than 700 caring sessions and 36 counselling sessions to patients and families.<\/strong>

Accommodation<\/strong>
SCCS operates a 14-bedroom Children’s Cancer Centre (CCC) as a temporary living house for outstation patients, with full provision of food and amenities. Daily shuttle services are provided to and from the hospital. The home housed 40 families<\/strong> in 2024.

Financial Assistance<\/strong>
Caring for a child with cancer is beyond the means of most of the patients we serve. To families demonstrating financial need, SCCS provides monetary assistance through monthly financial subsidies, medical treatment not covered by the government and transport subsidies. 46 families received financial aid in 2024, amounting to a total of RM109,500.00 while monthly transport subsidies were provided to a total amount of RM56,632.76 for 49 families.<\/strong>

Education<\/strong>
SCCS holds talks and campaigns to educate the public about cancer and the stigmas often attached to it. Educational and craft activities are also organised for the children to keep their minds off the treatment. SCCS also supports funding for medical staff training to allow them to provide better care for the patients. 21 medical staff received training supported by SCCS and saw over 8,000 attendees at their annual childhood cancer awareness event in 2024.<\/strong>

Recreation<\/strong>
SCCS organises outings, holiday camps, children’s parties and other activities for children and their families to heighten the spirit of the families. For children with cancer, each birthday is a victory. SCCS held birthday celebrations for 106 children in 2024.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
