The Sarawak Children\u2019s Cancer Society\u2019s (SCCS) flagship fundraising campaign, GoBald, continues to inspire the community, including political leaders, to stand in solidarity with children battling cancer. Batu Lintang Assemblyman YB See Chee How demonstrated his support by shaving his head during a satellite shave held at Aeroville Mall as part of SHEDA’s Home & Property Roadshow 2025, raising an impressive RM65,090 for SCCS.

YB See Chee How was joined by fellow supporter, Kong Shaw Tzay, as well as the grandfather of a 4-year-old childhood cancer patient currently undergoing treatment, Orai Anak Goper, in the head shaving event. Expressing gratitude, SCCS President Mary Kiu Ai Ling (\u90b1\u7231\u73b2) said, \u201cThe love and support shown by our community is truly heartwarming and gives hope to the children and families we serve.\u201d

Kiu highlighted the Society\u2019s ongoing commitments, including providing over RM560,000 in medical sponsorship in just the beginning of 2025. This funding supports two young patients: a 13-year-old girl diagnosed with leukemia requiring a bone marrow transplant, and a 5-year-old girl with neuroblastoma, who needs a bone marrow transplant followed by immunotherapy.

Last year, the campaign launched in March 2024, attracting over 3,800 donors and raising over RM771,000 towards its RM1 million target. More than 350 individuals have shaved their heads to show solidarity with children undergoing cancer treatment.

\u201cIn 2025, SCCS has pledged over RM1 million to cover the costs of medications, medical procedures, consumables, scans, and lab tests,\u201d Kiu shared.

Kiu further thanked the venue sponsor, Aeroville Mall, and long-time salon partner, Maison Monica Hair & Beauty Academy, for carrying out the shaves.

Each year, 60 to 70 new cases of childhood cancer are recorded in Sarawak, not including cases of remission and relapse. Donations from GoBald contribute approximately 20% to 30% of SCCS\u2019s annual expenditure, which exceeds RM2 million. These funds support critical services such as medical and financial aid, accommodation, meals, and transportation for rural families under active treatment at the Kuching Halfway Home. SCCS also provides counseling, recreational activities, and care packs to help new patients adjust to life in the ward, as well as sponsoring medical equipment not available in government hospitals.

Since 2001, SCCS has supported over 1,700 families across Sarawak, thanks to the generosity of public donations and corporate partnerships. About Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS)<\/strong>
Mission:<\/strong> To provide care and support for Malaysian children and their families who are suffering from
childhood cancer in Sarawak.

The Sarawak Children\u2019s Cancer Society is a non-profit organisation founded in November 2001, dedicated to meeting the needs of families of patients diagnosed with paediatric cancer in Sarawak irrespective of race, religion, age or gender. The SCCS committee is made up of 70% patients\u2019 parents and 30% volunteers. The Society has supported more than 1,700 children since 2001.

Our Services<\/strong>
Support<\/strong>
Through counselling sessions, home visits, support programmes, youth and family camps, and informal friendships, SCCS provides emotional and moral support to members of its community. In 2024, SCCS provided more than 700 caring sessions and 36 counselling sessions to patients and families.<\/strong>

Accommodation<\/strong>
SCCS operates a 14-bedroom Children’s Cancer Centre (CCC) as a temporary living house for outstation patients, with full provision of food and amenities. Daily shuttle services are provided to and from the hospital. The home housed 40 families<\/strong> in 2024.

Financial Assistance<\/strong>
Caring for a child with cancer is beyond the means of most of the patients we serve. To families demonstrating financial need, SCCS provides monetary assistance through monthly financial subsidies, medical treatment not covered by the government and transport subsidies. 46 families received financial aid in 2024, amounting to a total of RM109,500.00 while monthly transport subsidies were provided to a total amount of RM56,632.76 for 49 families.<\/strong>

Education<\/strong>
SCCS holds talks and campaigns to educate the public about cancer and the stigmas often attached to it. Educational and craft activities are also organised for the children to keep their minds off the treatment. SCCS also supports funding for medical staff training to allow them to provide better care for the patients. 21 medical staff received training supported by SCCS and saw over 8,000 attendees at their annual childhood cancer awareness event in 2024.<\/strong>

Recreation<\/strong>
SCCS organises outings, holiday camps, children’s parties and other activities for children and their families to heighten the spirit of the families. For children with cancer, each birthday is a victory. SCCS held birthday celebrations for 106 children in 2024.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
