The Kuching main shave event for GoBald 2024, the annual awareness and fundraising campaign by the Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS), is just a few days away. Participants who wish to shave their heads and fundraise to support children with cancer may still register online at www.gobald.my<\/a>. Registration closes on 30 June.

Now in its sixteenth year, GoBald remains the first and largest head-shaving charity event in Sarawak. It is dedicated to raising funds for children battling cancer and serves as a powerful public demonstration of moral support.

The second and final leg of the GoBald main shave event of 2024 will be held this Sunday, 30 June, at the Centre Court, AEON Mall Kuching Central, from 12:30 PM to 6:30 PM.

This year\u2019s theme, \u201cBeacon of Hope,\u201d emphasises the pivotal role that ordinary individuals play as agents of hope for children with cancer and survivors, encouraging the public to step up in action and be part of the children\u2019s journey to recovery.

Last year, the GoBald campaign raised over RM900,000 with over 160 participants shaving their heads. This year, SCCS aims to raise RM1 million and shave 500 heads to enhance and expand the support services provided to children with cancer and their families. This includes a budgeted RM920,000 for medical aid, of which over RM630,000 has already been incurred this year alone.

In addition to the main shave event, family-friendly activities will take place on both days over the weekend, while others are planned exclusively for Saturday, 29 June, and Sunday, 30 June. The schedule for Saturday’s activities is as follows:

\u25cf 2:00 PM: K-Pop Dance Workshop by La Danse Studio
\u25cf 3:00 PM: Family Storytelling and Craft session with Sarawak Storytellers Association
\u25cf 4:00 PM: Clown Magician with Balloon Twisting

Other activities throughout the weekend include a colouring corner, perler beads making, and resin art. Guests can also enjoy performances from Baby Dream Machine and La Danse Studio on the main shaving day. These activities are designed to engage the public, offering a fun and interactive way to learn more about the cause and how they can contribute.

The Society urges the public to join in this weekend to show support and help make a difference in the lives of children with cancer. Every contribution counts in achieving the goal of raising RM1 million to support these brave children and their families.

GoBald participants can choose to raise funds only, shave their heads, or both. Those opting for head-shaving must raise a minimum of RM50 to have their shave sponsored by SCCS. For more information and to register, please visit www.gobald.my or walk in on the actual day.

About Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS)<\/strong>
Mission:<\/strong> To provide care and support for Malaysian children and their families who are suffering from childhood cancer in Sarawak.

The Sarawak Children\u2019s Cancer Society is a non-profit organisation founded in November 2001, dedicated to meeting the needs of families of patients diagnosed with paediatric cancer in Sarawak irrespective of race, religion, age or gender. The SCCS committee is made up of 70% patients\u2019 parents and 30% volunteers. The Society has supported more than 1,650 children since 2001.

Our Services<\/strong>
Support<\/strong>
Through counselling sessions, home visits, support programmes, youth and family camps, and informal friendships, SCCS provides emotional and moral support to members of its community. In 2023, SCCS provided more than 800 caring sessions and 64 counselling sessions to patients and families.<\/strong>

Accommodation<\/strong>
SCCS operates a 14-bedroom Children’s Cancer Centre (CCC) as a temporary living house for outstation patients, with full provision of food and amenities. Daily shuttle services are provided to and from the hospital. The home housed 37 families<\/strong> in 2023.

Financial Assistance<\/strong>
Caring for a child with cancer is beyond the means of most of the patients we serve. To families demonstrating financial need, SCCS provides monetary assistance through monthly financial subsidies, medical treatment not covered by the government and transport subsidies. 51 families received financial aid in 2023, amounting to a total of RM109,000 while monthly transport subsidies were provided to a total amount of over RM63,000 for 44 families.<\/strong>

Education<\/strong>
SCCS holds talks and campaigns to educate the public about cancer and the stigmas often attached to it. Educational and craft activities are also organised for the children to keep their minds off the treatment. SCCS also supports funding for medical staff training to allow them to provide better care for the patients. 34 medical staff received training supported by SCCS and saw over 6,400 attendees at their annual childhood cancer awareness event in 2023.<\/strong>

Recreation<\/strong>
SCCS organises outings, holiday camps, children’s parties and other activities for children and their families to heighten the spirit of the families. For children with cancer, each birthday is a victory. SCCS held birthday celebrations for 128 children at both the ward and the halfway home, in 2023.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
